In the Privacy Law field, David has significant experience working with industry associations such as, Volunteer Manitoba, The Manitoba Child Care Association, The Association for Manitoba Archives and The Manitoba Supported Employment Network. During his presentation, he will review existing obligations under PIPEDA (the federal government's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act) in terms of the collection, use, disclosure and retention of personal information, alert you to amendments to PIPEDA that are working their way through Parliament, and that will dramatically change how your organization will need to respond to a breach of privacy, identify liability minefields, and provide practical advice to reduce your organization’s risk of non-compliance.

Another Successful Job Fair!
Our 9th Semi Annual Job Fair was held on March 23, 2011 at the University of Winnipeg. We had 8 employers take part as exhibitors. Job Seeker turnout was great, with over 400 job seekers visiting our exhibitors and overall employer reviews of the location were favourable. Our employers were excited about the amount of resumes and applications they were able to take back to the office to review.
MTEC along with MHA and MFRA would like to thank all the exhibitors that participated in the Spring Job Fair. Our next Job Fair will be held in September 2011.

Manitoba Tourism Education Council Working with Winnipeg Technical College
The Manitoba Tourism Education Council (MTEC) has reached an agreement with the Winnipeg Technical College (WTC) to provide resources for students and instructors in the Hotel and Hospitality Services program. By incorporating emerit tourism training products and MTEC business workshops into their curriculum, Winnipeg Technical College is offering students both academic and industry credentials, as well as preparing them for the realities of the tourism workforce in Canada today.

From March 20 to 21 the Manitoba Hotel Association hosted 1700 owners/managers & staff from the hotel, restaurant, and tourism industry at Centrex, Manitoba’s tradeshow for hotels, restaurants, bars, and food service providers.
New this year was the MTEC Business Solutions Café. Business owners and operators had the opportunity to grab a coffee and sit down and learn effective ways to grow their business and improve operations, while reducing their liability.
Safe Hospitality and MTEC were also on hand to provide information regarding the variety of workshops offered to help prevent illness and injury in the work place, emerit national certification, Employer of Choice, and the new ‘Serving it Safe’ Responsible Alcohol Service and Safety Program.
Thanks to everyone that stopped by the booth and café to chat and we are already looking forward to next year.

National Day of Mourning
Commemorating workers whose lives have been lost or injured in the workplace.
The numbers are staggering. In 2009, 939 workplace deaths were recorded in Canada - down from 1036 the previous year. This represents more than 2.57 deaths every single day.
In the seventeen year period from 1993 to 2009, 15,129 people lost their lives due to work-related causes (an average of 889 deaths per year).
The National Day of Mourning, held annually on April 28, was officially recognized by the federal government in 1991, eight years after the day of remembrance was launched by the Canadian Labour Congress. The Day of Mourning has since spread to about 80 countries around the world and has been adopted by the AFL-CIO and the international Confederation of Free Trade.
